History
Beginnings
The origin of Tagruato goes back into 1945, when our creator, Kantaro Tagruato, founded a mining company in Kyūshū, Japan’s southernmost island. Tagruato, who had emigrated to Japan from Polynesia with his family as young boy, started the company with dreams of “holding Earth’s energy in my fist.” He called his fledgling company 力の手.
Tagruato’s engineers implemented and subsequently perfected the Inclined Galleries mining technique, and became a leader in domestic sales of coal and nonferrous metals including copper, lead, zinc, and aluminum. More mines were opened to provide resources for Japan’s growing industries, and as success of the company grew, 力の手 began to diversify.
A machinery works factory was opened in Nagasaki in 1962, specializing in exports of engines for large construction vehicles to the Western world. This expanded upon with the introduction of the National Space Development Agency in 1969. 力の手 was commissioned to build parts for Japan’s satellites and launch vehicles. In mid 1970s, 力の手 staked a claim in the rapidly expanding petrochemical industry, producing plastics, polystyrene, and polypropylene. The company became Japan's third largest manufacturer of fast food containers.
Hard Times
The golden age could not last. The 1980s brought decline, scandal, and great losses to Tagruato’s dream. Mining, still 力の手’s main function, was a rapidly declining industry in the ‘80s. Domestically, it became more financially viable to import coal. Demand for zinc and lead decreased. In response, 力の手 was forced to cut jobs and salaries.
Throughout the decade, the company was falsely accused of various malfeasances, none of which were anchored in truth. Though Tagruato himself was becoming elderly, he still was running the corporation, and blame was placed upon his hobbled shoulder. When the defamations became public, Tagruato -- ashamed by his company’s soiled reputation -- laid upon his sword. 力の手 went bankrupt. The dream, it appeared, was over.
A New Sun Risen
In 1989, a brilliant young engineer named Ganu Yoshida was in search of an avenue to support his off-shore drilling revelations. Recognizing the potential still of the crumbling 力の手 company, Yoshida and his investors purchased all shares from those who had led the dream astray. The new Board dismissed those misguided souls, and pooled the rest of fragmented resources to form the foundation for the excellent company you see standing today.
First order of business was to build the Jimmu Drilling Station in the Inland Sea, named after the founder of Japan and the descendent of the sun goddess Amaterasu. The company’s new focus had been discovered -- deep sea Petroleum excavation. Over the next 15 years, twelve more drilling stations were built all over the globe, each more efficient and productive than the last. Yoshida became C.E.O., and soon left the tainted name behind to rename the company Tagruato, after its dream-filled founder. Following the model of diversification, Yoshida expanded into subsidiaries including Bold Futura, Yoshida Medical Research, Slusho! brand happy drink, and ParafFun! Wax Distributors.
Today, as drilling prepares on our fourteenth deep-sea station, Tagruato stands on the brink of joining the elite corporations of the planet earth.

Subsidiaries
According to its website, Tagruato has four subsidiaries:
Deep Sea Drilling
Tagruato explores the final frontier on planet earth -- the deepest recesses of our oceans. Our scientists and engineers have created drilling technology that can withstand degrees of extreme pressure, cold, and heat never before thought possible. This groundbreaking feat of industrial triumph allows for research and retrieval in areas previously unexplored by man.
Tagruato covers the planet. We have fourteen drilling stations strategically positioned around the globe, each a billion dollar marvel of modern engineering. Thousands of hardworking, well-paid, satisfied Japanese employees man their posts with honor and integrity. From the Arctic Ocean to the Mid-Atlantic ridge, we go deep. Capable of excavation at distances exceeding 7,000 meters of water and 9,200 meters of seabed, the greatest depths of the oceans have been opened for business.
The implications are vast and bountiful. Tagruato boasts sole ownership of the functionality designs implemented in our drilling stations. This gives us unparalleled access to the natural resources that lie below the ocean floor. Namely Petroleum, the most sought-after resource in the world. Opening these new regions is projected to boost Japan's national oil reserves by as much as sixty percent. Analysts believe that with the bounty it is about to attain, Tagruato will soon join the ranks of the world's wealthiest corporations.
Drilling Stations
Tagruato has fourteen drilling stations throughout the world, as indicated on the interactive drilling map. Each of the drilling stations is named after a Japanese emperor.
- The Jimmu station was the first to open. The subsequent stations were opened or named in the same chronological order as the reigns of the legendary Japanese emperors, as seen here.
- Five out of the six stations beginning with a K were opened on the same date.
- All of the stations started operations officially on a Tuesday, a Friday or a Saturday.

Chuai
Chuai station is believed to have the most relevance to the events of the movie because it is the closest station to New York and because of the recent events concerning it.
The third quarter results of Sep07 and Oct07 do not mention Chuai station, implying that it is not open yet. Because the scheduled opening date of the Chuai station (Sep07) has already passed by without any indication on the website of the drilling station being operational, many questions have arisen as to what may be occuring on the Chuai site.
In the fifth video on jamieandteddy.com, Teddy mentions that he has been captured by Tagruato, and that 'they found something or they're making something'. The Whistle Blower's messages state that Chuai 'harbors a dark secret', has no oil and the construction of it took place with this knowledge, implying that Teddy is held on Chuai station, the monster is already in existence and known to high-ranking officials of Tagruato and that Chuai was built for some purpose related to it.
2008 started with a growing amount of updates indicating that Chuai had been destroyed. This was confirmed on 06Jan08 in the form of news reports. They mention that it was destroyed on 27Dec07 and that only 7 people are unaccounted for.
